Who is LNG – MFI / What are Marine Fuels

Working together to create a cleaner environment.  LNG Marine Fuel Institute is an independent not-for-profit organisation established to promote the best practices of distributing and using marine fuels across Australia, China and other North Asian countries.

The acronym LNG stands for Liquified Natural Gas – a natural form of gas, cooled down to a liquid state. Liquified natural gas is odourless, colourless, non-toxic and non-corrosive therefore, less harmful to the environment. 

Captain Walter P. Purio, Chief Executive Officer of the LNG Marine Fuel Institute discussed the importance of embracing early adoption of LNG as a marine transport fuel. LNG MFI endeavour to create best practices based on the following five components, including; 1. Information

Providing exclusive and up-to-date access of information.  

2. Advocacy 

Working with government and non-government bodies around the world to ensure the implementation, stability and growth of marine fuel within the maritime sector.  

3. Expertise  

LNG advisors are experts within the maritime industry and have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the LNG fuel sector.  

4. Access and Collaboration 

LNG MFI are partnered with the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF) in the Northern Hemisphere to promote awareness of the use of natural gas as a marine fuel. 

5. Networking 

LNG MFI offer affiliates unparalleled networking opportunities with highly regarded industry professionals, providing high level information and industry insights.
